In general, most DVD boxes will list out subtitles that the movie is available in. If English subtitles are available, it will be mentioned on the back of the DVD container.
I ripped a dvd with WinX pro and got the file, but when i go to edit it in Corel Video Studio it shows the subtitles. and when i watch it on Windows Media Player it doesnt show subtitles, how do i get rid of them on Corel? Help?
Depending on the menu of the specific movie player, you should be able to enable subtitles. Generally, in the tools section of the menu you will find the option to enable subtitles, if they exist in the movie file or DVD.

All i did was hit the subtitle on my controller not on the dvd
