This appears to be a movie fiction. Phiz was a slang expression for the writer Charles Dickens- co-incidentally a favorite of the Keller family though he was deceased at the time Helen came along. Phiz was also a cartoonist who did Dickensian themes ( such as Scrooge and related characters) and the name was transferred- like Jeep or something- to Dickens! In much later life Miss Keller had an Akita Dog, she got it from Japan. This breed is not normally used in the Guide Dog for the Blind- or seeing-eye role.

First was Kamikaze-go. He died of canine distemper, his older brother, Kenzan-go, was presented to her as an official gift from the Japanese government in July 1938. Keller is credited with having introduced the Akita to the United States through these two dogs.
