check the fuse in the underhood fuse box. There are separate fuses for the trailer turn circuits and tail lights. If the fuse is burnt, replace and reconnect the trailer. If the fuse blows again, check the trailer wiring for a short on the park light wire.
The 2002 Chevrolet avalanche horn and trailer lights have different fuses. The fuses can be found in the fuse box. The location of the fuses can be found on the inside cover of the fuse box.
Ford has a separate fuse and panel for the trailer lights. In 2002? they incorporated these fuses in with the main fuse panel I believe. Prior to 2002 these fuses were in the power distribution box under the hood. I would start looking for a 7.5 amp or 10 amp mini-fuse.
Take a light tester and check the pins at the truck side trailer plug. With the truck set for running lights check for power at the pins. If there is power then there is a loose or bad wire on the trailer side. If there is no power then there is a power problem on the truck side.

I have a 2002 tacoma double cab. The trailer wire converter is located behind the rear seat drivers side. The black box. Below the connection on the box are 4 5amp fuses each is labeled. Most likely you have blown a fuse. What ever model you have locate the converter and the fuses will be inline with it, they are to protect the box.
Check the fuses for the trailer wiring.
1. Burned out bulb. Easiest to fix / find. OR 2. Fuse blown. OR 3. Trailer Fuse blown (yes it effects the tail / brake lights) OR 4. Ground wire not grounding. Hardest to fix / find.
