think check and investigateGasket sealers work if used correctly copper head gaskets should always have a gasket sealer but it has to be the right kind. felpro gaskets usually don't any more if you are getting the best with the silicone sealer bead around the water holes, exellent gaskets. there are other newer gaskets out their that are better or as good you have to look, in another words use the internet and study the gaskets out there and check on the products, from independent sources, see what they have to say, this is your job as a mechanic. i don't think i have to say this but know days i am not sure the head and block surfaces have to be perfectly clean, also they have to be true and have the right surface finish to seal with different kinds of gaskets. so when the machinist asks what kinds of gaskets you are going to use, you get the kind of surface finish the manufacture says to use. the so called smart mechanic then thinks it looks to rough and smoothes it out and blown head gasket. what some times looks like a rough surface is the right kind of roughness to grip the gasket. also i never take aluminum heads to a machinist inless i know the difference in the materials i have got heads back from a shop and had to send my man to a good shop to fix the mess the first made of the aluminum head he machined using cast iron tooling. my falt for not checking this guy out no excuse i was busy this cost much time doing it twice and i ate the cost of doing it twice cheaper to check sources.
