i have an 2005 800. remove axle nut, brake caliper and rotor and boot. rest half shaft on jack stand. use either a large pipe wrench or adjustable wrench fit loosely over shaft behind cv joint and strike with a large 2.5 pound hammer on wrench to remove. cv joint can be disassenbled, cleaned and reassembled easily. use handle for a screwdriver to tap cage around bearings to verticle. remove bearings one at a time and retate after each is removed. clean and reinstall, then grease.

No, it will not fit. While it would physically fit it has differernt sensor hook ups and won't work properly. 99-02 Sportsman 400 and 500 share the same transmission. I am not sure about 03-up.
I have a 1999 sportsman 500 and it done the same thing. The problem was the camshaft lobe wore off. The new camshafts are updated to correct this problem, they have a extra oil passage in them.
