hello,

i just happened to observed and help my mechanic pull down my 98 grand caravan.

1/ we loosen a knot and a bolt that adjust the tension of the belt. these knot and bolt are located at the back of the left side of the engine (if you are in front of the engine). you can see the pulley and belt just below them.

2/ either you pump out the Power Steering liquid from the reservoir (draining them after pulling off the rubber hose on top or at the bottom of the pump is too messy). unfasten the clip of the rubber tube. this is located at the end of the tube coming from the reservoir going to the pump.

3/ then, he went under the van (gear in park, front portion of the vehicle securely jacked, rear tires wedged front and back) and locate 2~3 bolts securing the pump bracket.

4/ then he unfasten the clip of the other rubber tubes (input to and return from steering mechanism).

5/ he removed the bracket while carefully positioning the pump to stay within the area. it will not fall off the ground since you have to take it our from the opened hood. unless you remove all engine parts underneath to give way to removing the pump, its up to you.

6/ then on the open hood, carefully pull out the pump, maneuvering it to this limited space till you manage to take it out.

reinstalling is just the reverse.

reason for us removing the pump is that the fluid leaked out. we have to replace all the rubber O-rings and seal. be careful to inspect also the portion of the pump housing particularly the area of the tightening knot. a gap caused by the tightening knot (mine didn't have any washer on it) was also seen when we dismantle it. be careful not to over-tighten the 2 knots on the bracket holding the pump.
