Hi, If it's anything like my 1996 Volvo 850 It goes like this. First at the top of the engine just behind the oil fill cap is a black cover that says Volvo on it. The cover is attached to the engine with several torx screws. Get a torx screwdriver set and remove these screws. When all the screws are removed you can lift up and remove the cover. Once the cover is off you will see 5 deep holes and at the bottom of these are the spark plugs. You will need a 5/8 spark plug socket (make sure it has the rubber spark plug holder in the socket itself) with a really long extension to get them out. I replaced mine with the bosch platinum 4 spark plugs and have been pleased with their performance so far. Good luck! Mike Minneapolis From 1999 on, all Volvos had individual coils. When you take the black plastic cover off, you will see a series of black squares, each about 1 1/2", with wires connected to them. There is one for each cylinder. They are held in by either 1 or 2 10mm head bolts. Remove the bolts and carefully disconnect the wires, there is a small latch holding the connector to the coil. You can then pull the coils straight up. The plugs are below. When you put it all together, take care to not pinch any of the wires under the coils or the plastic cover. If the wires get pinched, they can short out and the car won't run.
