1. Locate the transmission case in front of the driver side under

the engine compartment behind the radiator. Remove the

drain plug (24mm) from the bottom of the transaxle case and

drain the Transmission Fluid to a drain.

2. Install the drain plug with a new gasket, and tighten it to the specified torque (18 ft-lb).

3. Measure the amount of fluid that was drained on the drain pan.

4. If you want to clean the inside of the pan, remove the bolts of the pan and clean the inside. (Note: the oil filter cannot be replaced without removing the whole transmission and it is considered as a life time filter. It is usually replaced only in a major repair of the transmission.)

5. Clean the lip of the pan and transmission so it is free from oil. Have a new gasket before reinstalling the pan. Finger tighten all the bolts then tighten it with a torque wrench in a x-cross pattern and torque each bolt in three stages till you reach 106 inch/pound.

6. Remove the transmission dipstick on top of the transmission and fill new transmission fluid thru the filler hole using a long necked funnel with the same amount of fluid that was drained from the transmission. Leave the funnel in place for the filling stage later.

7. Locate the two hose that are connected to transaxle and the bottom side of the radiator. One of this is the intake and the other is the discharge hose.

8. Disconnect the discharge hose [In Mitsubishi Endeavor, it is the medial hose (nearer to the midline of the car)] from the radiator and plug the opening of this hose so that it will not spew any oil later.

9. Connect a similar sized hose on the radiator and have the other end into the drain pan (Be sure that you can see the oil when it drains later).

10. Have an assistant to start the engine and Shift the Stick shift to Neutral. Never let the car run. (Be sure the parking brake is engaged and you have a chuck on your tires).

11. Old transmission oil should start draining to the oil pan. At the same time, replace the same amount of new transmission oil to the transmission thru the filler tube using the long necked funnel. You may turn off the engine if you cannot cope up with refilling.

12. At the Same time, observe the draining oil till it's clear as the new fluid (It is better if you have assistant #2 to observe the color of the oil). When the oil is clear let, the assistant #1 at the driver seat to put the shift to park and turn off the engine.

13. Disconnect the drain tube from the radiator, reconnect the hose that you disconnected in step 8 to the radiator and remove the funnel from the filler tube.

14. Check the level of transmission fluid with the dipstick. Fill or drain with oil so that the level will be at cold, and firmly insert the dipstick.

15. Start the engine and run it at idle for one to two minutes. Shift the Stick Shift through all positions, and then Shift it to Neutral without moving the car.

16. Check that the transmission fluid level is at the cold level on the dipstick. If the level is less than this, add transmission fluid. If it is over drain.

17. Drive the vehicle until the transmission fluid temperature rises to the normal operating temperature (70 - 80°C (158 -176°F)), and then check the transmission fluid level again. The transmission fluid level must be at 'Hot' mark.

NOTE: The 'Cold' level is for reference only and the 'Hot' level is regarded as the standard level. If you have no thermometer, drive your car 'till hot. When the transmission fluid is less than the specified level, add transmission fluid. When the transmission fluid is greater than the specified level, drain the excess fluid through the drain plug to adjust the transmission fluid to the specified level.

18. Firmly insert the dipstick into the oil filler tube and you are done !

19. Recheck the transmission fluid level after a week and fill if necessary.
