Smoky diesel engines ' black smoke ' is soot from incorrect combustion. this can be from a number of causes in the injection mechanism ,usually injector sticking (too much fuel)

try injector cleaning additive in the fuel.. or other more serious wear valves rings.

Also the fuel metering controlled by the sensors and computer system not correctly detecting the air mass, manifold pressure, exhaust gas chemistry, engine load sensors etc.

It is difficult to isolate the actual cause without considering the service condition of the engine.

White smoke is from burning engine oil or coolant, which may occur if the engine is overfilled with oil or has other mechanical wear or damage.
