A locksmith may be able to remove the broke key and make a new one. Or just replace the ignition.
I broke my key in the ignition and cant get it out. My only option I can see, is to replace to tumbler. How do I remove it?
yes you do have to remove lock cylinder:first turn it to the off position and then under column is a hole.Take a pick or coathanger ,bend it straight to go inside hole and press against cylinder release button and pull cylinder out
Gum maybe?? or tweaser??
if you are changing the ignition cylinder you need to remove the steering wheel and dig down to the lock cylinder that way. do becareful you will need a special tool to reinstall components under steering wheel. I had to replace mine when the wire broke that reads the chip in the key The special tool he is speaking of is called a spring depressor.
If the engine runs at all, the timing belt is not "broke."
u might have broke something the actual ignition lock cylinder, that would be my guess from the sounds of it.
Well, it sounds like the chip that is in your key may have broke or got stuck on a part of the ignition. I had that problem. This happened not long after I had had to have the ignition replaced?!?
You broke it.
Flush the lock with a lubricant. Use the handle of the broken key as a guide. Find a thin wire and stiff it along the sides of the broken key part. Hold the wire in place and remove the part.
Didn't you answer your own question? Replace the ignition and go from there. Call a locksmith like you should have done when you broke the key off in the first place. It's was really an easy and inexpensive fix before you broke out the drill but here we are. The steering wheel will have to be removed as well as the steering wheel locking plate and blinker housing. Then you can remove the "torx" screw which holds the ignition in. The ignition can now be removed and replaced.
First, the best thing to do is go over to the parts store and pick up an ignition lock cylinder WITH KEYS. Then take off all parts of the dash that cover up your cylinder. Then look at the new one find where the little button is to push. Put the keys in the ignition, turn it to the on position (battery disconnected), push the pin in and it will come right out by pulling on the key
