The transmission needs repair. The electronic control system causes the transmission to stay in 2nd gear when it detects a problem, such as slipping in 3rd gear or overdrive. This allows the car to be driven in an emergency.
To repair a transmission that is stuck in gear on a 1989 Ford Escort 1.9L CFI, it will be necessary to drop the transmission out of the vehicle. It will probably have to be overhauled by replacing a belt or fixing the linkage, that is causing it to be stuck in gear.
It does not have a speedometer gear. The speedometer is electronic and gets its signal from the ABS and transmission computers from the wheel speed and transmission speed sensors. It does not have a speedometer gear. No but you can replace a gear with a new one.
the problem is u have to take it to a transmission repair guy
It is probably a bad transmission. Sometimes it can be repaired "in the car". Not all transmission shops can do this repair. Most dealers do not repair but rather they will replace. This may not be nessessary.
Worn gears for first gear? It would be best to ask a proper gearbox repair specialist for an opinion. They could quote you for a reconditioned gearbox too!
3,because the gear ratio in a manual transmission results is a gear ratio of about 3:1 for first gear.
bad transmission..... expensive repair.
This is a repair for a professional and not a DIY repair. Take it to a GM dealer or a trusted Transmission shop.
If it's an automatic transmission the linkage needs to be adjusted. On a manual transmission when it pops out of gear it means there may be a bad synchronize for that gear a mechanic will need to repair. Once in a while a manual transmission will start doing this if it is low on gear oil.
If the transmission is an automatic, the electronic controls or internal problems could be the cause. If it is a straight drive, then the most common cause is a bent or worn shifter fork.
