On a GL1200, the starter chain should have about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of slack. This amount ensures proper tension for effective operation while preventing excessive wear on the chain and sprockets. It's important to check the chain regularly and adjust as necessary to maintain optimal performance. Always refer to the service manual for specific guidelines and recommendations.
it should have 1 inch to 3/4 inch slack in it
slack of the chain
Half inch to an inch of slack in the middle is just right.
From the middle of the 2 sprockets you should have about an inch of slack or play in your chain when you lift up on the bottom of the chain with your finger if it looks a lot more then that adjust it but you don't want it to be too tight.
The 350 Chevy does not have a belt, it has a chain. Slack in the chain is normal as long as it is not excessive. A better determining factor on when to replace the chain, is the condition of the gears and if the chain is noisy.
replace the chain and gears
The chain on a Yamaha YFZ450 should be adjusted to have a slack of about 1 to 1.5 inches when measured at the midpoint between the rear axle and the swingarm. It's essential to ensure that the chain is neither too tight nor too loose, as excessive tension can lead to premature wear on the sprockets and bearings, while too much slack can cause the chain to derail. Regularly check and adjust the chain tension to maintain optimal performance and safety.
The factory timing chains have a lot more slack than the aftermarket chains.
YES. but very LITTLE is normal.
The garage door chain should be tight enough to prevent sagging but not too tight that it strains the motor. It should have about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of slack for optimal performance and safety.
There should not be any slack in the your wheel bearings. The more slack the will bearing has the quicker the will bearing will fail.
From the middle up shoud be at a 1/2 inch. Thats the top part of the chain in the little hole in the upper middle of the outter primary. Put your index on the bottom of the chain and lift up should be around 1/2 inch slack or lash. Too much will hit top of primary to little (too tight) with grind the adjustment shoe off. Hope this helps.
