If your 1997 Nissan Pathfinder front and back windshield wipers do not operate, it could possibly be the motor. After checking the fuse box and they still are not working, it is possible the motor will need to be replaced.
You have a short in the cluster.

I recently had a simliar problem on my 1998 Aurora. I switched out the motor and still no go....ummm. I checked the fuse and it was blown. I recall starting the wipers when it was covered in ice and that's when the problem started. Also check out the site below it's totally dedicated to Auroras http://aurorah.proboards47.com/index.cgi
blower motor resistor thermal limiter is blown. Replace the blower motor resistor.
If your windshield wipers still aren't working after replacing them and checking the fuses, you may need to check the electrical wiring. This is best done by a certified auto mechanic.
replace the blower motor switch
