that all depends on the color andhow dirty it is! if it is darker then normal, change the fluid and filter. if it is ok and no problems. just top off the fluid. but if you have shifting problems, just change fluid and filter in transmission. this may be the cause,

You will have to take the transmission pan off and change the filter inside. Make sure you remove the old gasket as well and put a good new one on. Use silicon sealer. Ultra Blue is good. Top with new trans fluid till it shows level on trans dipstick (while engine is running)

I was told by numerous mechanics that the transmission has to taken out to change the fluid. I jacked my car up the other day and noticed a bolt near the driver side tire. I think that's where the fluid comes out if you remove it. The filter is located on the top of the transmission and looks like an oil filter. I haven't tried to change the fluid yet, but I think it's worth a shot being as they tell me it costs around 600 dollars to change the fluid. Yikes!!
