Does the transmission have to be dropped in order to change the transmission fluid or put in a new strainer in a 1988 Nissan Maxima?

To change the Transmission Fluid, there is a large plug located in the front lower transmission housing, facing the radiator with a indented square hole. Use a 1/2 inch socket wrench and remove the plug to drain the fluid. About the screen, it is inside the top cover of the transmission. Generally does not need service.
