How do you bypass the ac compressor on a 1989 Cadillac Fleetwood?

You can bypass the a/c compressor on the 1989 cadillac fleetwood by simply using a smaller accessory belt. I have found that a 77 inch belt works perfectly. There is no need for a bypass pulley and you won't find one for this model anyway.

Can you bypass your ac compressor on a 1999 Nissan Maxima?

The ac won't work without it and there is no reason to- it freewheels anyway until you turn it on.

Does a 98 Honda civic have an automatic belt tensioner on the Serpentine belt?

That I know of, there is NO serpentine belt, unless you are talking about the the Timing Belt (hardly serpentine, but anyway), it has a belt tensioner, not automatic, though.

How long is the serpentine belt on a 1999 24 liter and can you get one that will by pass the air conditioner?

I have a similar problem. My air condition compressor was whinning, maybe a bad bearing. I don't even use the air anyway, and do not want to pay to fix it or remove it and put in these brackets that they sell. So I thought why not just buy a belt for this engine with out air and just by pass the air compressor. It just makes sense. The air compressor is just an add on bracket anyway. So buy a belt for your 1999 2.4 liter with out air and install the new belt. Bart

How do you replace serpentine belt for 2000 Dodge Caravan?

Definitely NOT a job for the amateur. Very tricky and you really have to get the manual to learn how to do it. (personally, I wouldn't own ANY vehicle without getting the manual for it anyway)

If a 1996 Lumina has started to make a loud noise that sounds like a bad pulley but you have changed the water pump and steering wheel pump and pulley could it be the AC pump?

Don't just replace parts until the problem goes away! Remove the serpentine belt and check the individual pulley's and idler wheels. Often an idler pulley will make noise after it has been disturbed. This has nothing to do with the method of installation, it just means that the pulley was old and ready to give you problems anyway. With the belt off, check each individual component by turning it manually. Give each a spin to see if they make any noises that sound remotely like what you have been hearing. If you replaced your compressor less than 90 days ago and the unit doesn't work again if the entire unit is replaced can you reuse the compressor or return it?

You cannot return the compressor unless it is the reason your system is not working. No need to reuse the compressor as you will have a brand new unit anyway.

How to install serpentine belt on 1995 Dodge Dakota?

Ok, you didnt specify which engine, but it really doesnt matter which engine or even which type of vehicle (to a point anyway). But generally this is a real simple job..ten minutes tops. 1. Locate the belt routing diagram under the hood in the engine compartment, if its not there, draw your own based on how your old belt routes. 2. Locate the belt tensioner pulley...on mine it has a 15mm bolt on it (damn metrics!). 3. Put the 15mm (or whatever size your bolt is) socket onto a breaker bar or a long ratchet , then put it onto the belt tensioner pulley bolt. 4.Push the pulley (in the direction as though you were trying to tighten the bolt)..this will move the whole spring loaded tensioner pulley assembly, so that belt gets very very loose). 5. HOLD the tensioner pulley in that position as you REMOVE the old belt (the longer the ratchet the easier this is as it gives you leverage, requiring less physical strength to hold the tensioner pulley in position) 6. Slip the new serpentine over all the pulleys saving the last pulley to be any smooth bore, non-ridged pulley (like the water pump pulley)...this will make the job...oh so easy... you will call your 10 year old daughter/sister out to do it for you next time! 7. take the pressure off the belt tensioner pulley and the belt should go tight (make sure the pulley is centered on EVERY pulley and follows the proper routing. WAH-LAH your done...Its that simple. I would rather change 10 serpentine belts than wash one cup or fold one shirt...its that easy.

Does bypassing compressor improve fuel efficiency?

Bypassing the a/c compressor will not effect fuel mileage. As long as you have the a/c turned of it has no effect anyway the only time it has effect is when the a/c is running.

1988 Buick Lasabre Can you replace the serpentine belt with a belt for a car without AC since the AC doesn't work anyway?

Yes, as long as the air conditioning pulley is not in the way of the belt's travel. Note that a little trial and error fitting may or may not be required. If the belt specified by manufacturer for non air conditioned vehicle doesn't fit, feel free to experiment with sizes. Either they'll fit or they won't, your parts person should be able to help with this.

yes u can just get a belt for your car but w/o ac and follow the diagram that's under the hood

How do you replace a serpentine belt and water pump pulley on a 1990 Cadillac DeVille?

I just recently changed the water pump on my dad's 1990 Cadillac Deville. It was an undertaking let me tell you. First you have to take a 1/2" ratchet and position it in the place on the belt tensioning pully and pull it toward the front of the car. This will allow you to completely remove the belt. Take note as to how it is oriented around the various pulleys and the back idler pulley. I found that even after I had removed the three bolts that hold the water pump pulley to the water pump itself, I couldn't just remove the pulley. There wasn't enough room between the pulley and the frame. I was removing the water pump anyway, so I painstakingly removed all of the water pump mounting bolts and nuts, and removed the pump with the pulley loose. There are several bolts you can't get to anyway, unless you take the pulley bolts out. I just had to move the pulley to one side or the other in order to get to the bolts under the pulley. Installing the new pump had to be done in the reverse order. The lip of the pulley catches on the water pump shaft and that keeps you from being able to remove it. There may be an easier way, but I couldn't find one. I didn't want to take a lot of parts off to just to get the pulley out of my way. It's tough, but it can be done. I have the cut up hands to prove it. I hope this info helps you.
