In a 2003 Ford Windstar, the torque converter serves as a crucial component of the automatic transmission system. It connects the engine to the transmission, allowing the vehicle to come to a stop while the engine is still running. The torque converter also multiplies engine torque during acceleration, providing a smoother transition of power from the engine to the wheels. Additionally, it helps improve fuel efficiency by enabling the engine to operate at optimal RPMs.
The torque converter in a Ford Windstar is located on the side of the transmission at the valve body. You must remove the side cover in order to gain access to it.

This is a very common problem with ford Windstars... the torque converter meets the transmission through a series of spindles that insert into the whole of the torque converter. The smallest shaft toward the end turns the transmission fluid pump. The corresponding hole in the torque converter stips out and fails to turn the shaft. End result = no pump, no pressure... no movement at all.
