it could be your roll cage or ball joint might have to much movement or play and might need replacing.

Worn out front shocks and struts will make a clunking noise when you go over small box. The strut may actually allows the tire to hit the fender well.
It might be the CV joints. Go to a front suspension specialist and have it checked out.

State your noise.
the steering wheel wont make the front wheels make noise as there is no generating source from the steering wheel. it will be the other way around.
A bad cv joint/axle shaft on the front will make a clicking noise when turning.
worn stabilizer end link, worn stabilizer bushings, worn control arm bushings, worn strut mount, worn ball joints. Take your pick
I had a similar problem with my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it turned out to be my front sway bar bushings and front sway bar link. The sound was a large clunk sound when I went over bumps. After I got it fixed there were no problems.
