The same thing happened to my 1995 Tercel. I guessed that it was the Alternator. To test if it was, I disconnected the battery while the car was on, and it instantly turned off, which confirms that indeed the alternator is dead. My mechanic also confirmed it. I bought a new one for $95, and once the mechanic changed it, the lights turned off. The same thing happened to my 1995 Tercel. I guessed that it was the Alternator. To adjust the brake on a Toyota Tercel, first, locate the brake adjustment mechanism, typically found at the rear brakes if you have drum brakes. If your Tercel has disc brakes, ensure the calipers are properly aligned. For drum brakes, turn the adjusting wheel or lever to either tighten or loosen the brake shoes until they are just touching the drum. After adjusting, pump the brake pedal a few times to ensure proper function before testing the vehicle.
FYI - I had a bad alternator. Apparently, a failed alternator may/can/will cause the battery AND brake warning lamps to come on. Alternator has been replaced, and all warning lamps cleared.
