A Grand Am not shifting past 2nd gear could be due to several issues, including low Transmission Fluid levels, a malfunctioning transmission control module, or a faulty shift solenoid. Additionally, problems with the throttle position sensor or a clogged transmission filter could impede proper shifting. If the vehicle is in limp mode due to a detected fault, it may limit shifting to protect the transmission. Diagnosing the exact cause typically requires a professional inspection or diagnostic scan.
