Check the heat shield.
If the engine running you hear the engine rev up. Describe noise, is it when in park or when driving? Does it hurt the performance of the vehicle?
Is it a lifter ticking?
The fuel injectors make the ticking noise you hear at startup, especially when the engine is cold (colder temperatures).
This depends entirely on how well a person hears. Some people will not hear the ticking of a clock if they are standing right next to it, while others will hear it in the next room or beyond if it is quiet enough.
Does it turn over? When you try to start the car can you hear a ticking noise? If there's ticking it could be your battery or alternator but if it doesn't tick it's probably your starter.
The ticking noise - is their 'radar' - bat's calls are just about audible at the top end of human hearing. Some people can hear them without an artificial bat 'locator'.
If you hear it only at idle and sounds faint, it is your rocker shaft. They wear on the end and makes a slight ticking noise. Mine has done it for over 100k miles and no problems. I hope you have done reg maint and kept oil changed.
