For all Continental 360 series, #1 is the cylinder which is closest to the accessory case. For an engine driving a tractor propeller, this will be on the starboard side closest to the firewall.
The location of number 1 cylinder is front left.

a cylinder
On a Dodge 360 engine, the number 1 spark plug wire typically starts at the distributor cap at the terminal located at the 5 o'clock position when the cap is oriented with the rotor pointing to the number 1 cylinder. The firing order for the 360 is usually 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Ensure the engine is at top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke for cylinder number 1 when setting the timing and routing the wires.
On a Dodge 360 engine, the number one spark plug is located on the driver's side of the engine, at the front. This engine is configured with a traditional V8 layout, so the cylinder numbering starts at the front on the driver's side and continues to the back, then continues on the passenger side. Therefore, the cylinder closest to the front left of the engine is designated as number one.
