The spark from the coil occurs when you turn the key off and on due to the sudden interruption of current, creating a voltage spike that can generate a spark. When starting the engine, the ignition system is designed to provide a steady current to keep the engine running, preventing the abrupt voltage change needed for a spark. Additionally, the ignition timing and conditions during starting may not be optimal for producing a spark. Therefore, you only see a spark when the key is toggled, which disrupts the current flow.
Because when you turn the igniton switch to run it heats up the coil which then in turn goes to the distributer and from the distributer to the spark plugs.
Can be a number of reasons just to name a few for no spark; 1-you have a bad coil, battery can be weak, a loose ground connection in the starting circuit, bad wires. these are just some reasons for no spark
check for spark from the number one plug wire if no spark then start with the coil
I think you remove one of the spark plug wires from the coil and hold it far apart from the coil. Have someone turn the key so the car is turning over. Bring the spark plug wire closer to the coil and if there is spark the coil is good. Note: if you hold to close you will get a very good jolt of spark if the coil is good, that is why you start far away and work your way closer.
To check a coil you just need to take out your spark plug but leave it plugged into the coil and ground the spark plug while trying to turn it over. If it is a good strong spark than your coil is fine. If it doesn't spark than unplug the wire going to it and try it again if it doesn't spark than it is a good chance your coil is bad. if it does spark than it is a wire problem. Also make sure that your spark plug is gaped correctly, usually at about 0.030.
no spark. or a faint spark. hold it. turn it over. if you get a big zap. then you have lots of spark. if you get a tiny jolt. then your losing power.
check the rotor botton in the dizzy
the spark plugs are under each coil pack unbolt the coils and twist and turn the coil pack up the plugs are under them
Start with the basics. Is it getting fuel and spark? If no fuel then check the fuel pump and filter. For no spark check the cap, rotor, coil, and coil wire.
remove the spark plug plug it into the coil turn off the lights in the garage and kick start the bike there should be a nice bright spark at the end of the spark plug if it's weak then your spark plug is failing if there is no spark coming at all then you have a ignition malfunction
Symptoms of a faulty ignition coil are power to the coil checked with a multi-meter and no power out checked by pulling any of the spark plugs, placing it back int the spark plug cap, grounding out the end of the spark plug against metal while you have someone turn the motor over lack of spark would indicate no power from coil. You can also check the output side of the coil with a multimeter but note that your reading will jump instead of staying constant.
it could be the coil pick up in your distributor
