cable could be loose or faulty speedo..
Needs new speed sensor or if it has a cable to the speedometer it needs to be replaced along with the housing.
it depends on what it is doing, does it not work at all? or does it jump around? could be the plastic speedo gear in the transmission, or it could be your speedometer itself. i have had a problem with mine and i need to replace my speedometer, the back assembly has gone bad. it jumps around. mazurlaser@aol.com
The bug that clicks and jumps around is a cricket.
The small bug that jumps around in the grass is a grasshopper.
I had 91 crx with the rpm needle would jump around sometimes. Then my distributor went out and I replace it and the problem did not come back. ---------- The speedometer cable probably needs to be lubricated with graphite powder. Don't know how to access the cable though. I have the same problem on my 94 si, but strangely, the odometer does seem to be working fine.

Would need the year of your vehicle, as well as make and model, in order to determine whether yours has a mechanical or an electronic speedometer. Each type of mechanism has a very different set of causes which could lead to what you're describing.
This issue could be caused by a faulty speed sensor, loose wiring, or a malfunctioning gauge cluster. It is recommended to have a mechanic inspect the speed sensor and wiring for any issues and replace or repair as needed. If the problem persists, the gauge cluster may need to be replaced.
