IF THE BEARINGS IN THE ALTERNATOR ARE BADLY WORN, IT MAY CAUSE THE FAN BELT TENSION TO BECOME SLACK AND SLIP ON THE PULLEY WHEEL OF THE STEERING PUMP.
there are mainly three types of Power Steering
1) hydraulic
2) electrical
3) hydro-electrical
in first case the power assistance is given by the hydraulic pump which is coupled directly to the engine.
But in electrical system for front wheel drive vehicles we use 12V/ 80Amp motor which gets power from battery.
The bad alternator is the one which does not do it's primary function of charging the battery.
The motor ll not be able to perform in absence of less power & so the steering would be hard to steer.
A bad alternator. Turning the steering wheel all the way is very demanding on the power steering which draws power from the engine and can cause the idle to dip down. A weak alternator is usually the cause for the stalling.
Bad torque converter? Power steering fluid low? Bad power steering pump? Bad bearing on any belt driven accesory I.E. Alternator, Water pump, air pump (if any), a/c compressor etc. Bad wheel bearing? Bad tire?
no it wont affect the steering. the only thing to affect the steering would be the pump, the steering box, the belt or lines. or possibly worn out mechanical steering components. like tie rods ball joints etc.
Possibly if the bearing is bad it will freeze up and stop when the bearing gets hot from friction.
Spark Plugs do not affect your alternator. As long as your engine is running then it should be charging unless your alternator is bad
will a power steering cap leak
Bad power steering pump
Perhaps low power steering fluid Perhaps power steering pump is going bad Perhaps low power steering fluid Perhaps power steering pump is going bad
Steering/suspension components worn? Bad steering rack? Power steering pump getting weak?
Probably a bad power steering pump or bad power steering fluid.
It wouldn't affect the pump and it can cause hard steering one way or other, or it can leak.
Power steering belt slipping? Power steering pump bad? Steering rack worn? Suspension parts worn?
