Under hood on passenger side, Looks like a fuse box. Open up and pull out the square green plastic boxes. Look underneath each and look for a broken link.

A battery cannot be drained by a shorted diode when the ignition key is off.
If the alternator is computer regulated it may not run with battery disconnected. The alt. may be good, but the wires to it are open/shorted.
depends on a lot of things........is your battery shorted out or is it just dead?
If a battery is "shorted", meaning that its terminals are connected together through a low resistance, high current flows in the connection and the battery becomes discharged very soon. It makes no difference whether any part of the battery is connected to ground.
Cause it is shorted out ,replace it.
Overcharge, often due to a shorted cell.
it gets shorted because distilled water contains some of the chemicals which allow conduction
you may have a dead battery of a shorted wire or component. be sure to connect positive to positive and negative to negative. disconnect one component at a time to find short. check that the exaust manifold isn't touching the starter
It could blow up the battery.
Chances are the alternator is defective. a shorted armature, or shorted or burnt out field. Check battery voltage, if suddenly is discharged, this should confirm the a defective alternator or broken alternator belt. Also check for blown fuse or melted fusible link or tripped circuit breaker in starting and charging system.
Yes but not likely. Was ther a huge amount of smoke? is your battery a puddle? if not it hasn't been shorted.
