Thomas Edison lived an amazing life in a time of many scientific advances, and he, more than anyone else, helped make those fantastic ideas and dreams of the time into a reality with his many inventions. From the time after his birth in 1847, he brought great innovation, enthusiasm and eagerness to science, sometimes a bit to far, exemplified when he was working chemical experiments on a train and blew it up. His gifts to humankind shall never be forgotten and, although Thomas Alva Edison died in 1928, his genius lives on.

Facts:

Thomas Alva Edison was born in 1847 to Samuel Edison Jr. and Nancy Matthew Elliot, two hardworking parents from Milan, Ohio. From a early age he showed great interest in all things mechanical and was constantly ripping apart and rebuilding gadgets. He once saved a boy from a moving train and the boys father taught him how to operate telegraphs in return. This, and his entrepreneurial nature led him in his life to found 14 companies.
