First, I am not a professional and leave you responsible for safety.
Remove the old belt... it's good to take note of were it goes but if you can't no worries. If you have a cover on the mower deck that goes over the pulley you will need to remove it... I think it's only 3 screws. Hook the new belt over the pulley (make sure it seats in the groove nicely. Pull the remaining slack of the belt toward the front.
You'll notice 2 pulley's in the front that turn up. Both grooved. You'll need to open the cover on the tractor and you'll see on the front on the engine there are 2 pulley's on a clutch. Youll need to seat the belt into the 2 grooved pulleys that turn up (notice one is on a spring and pulls back when pressure is applied.) then push it on the engine pulley. (Use the appropriate one to your belt and mower deck configuration.) You'll probably have to start it and then turn the pulley (again on a clutch so should rotate easily) to get it to feed on. (Also, it will turn the blades on the mower deck so be really careful of what/who is near them.)
That should be it. If you really have a tough time and your sure it's the right belt then you can unhook the deck and slide it forward to put the belt on... then the struggle is to hook the deck back on. but some people do find this easier (since the belt won't pull as much since it's all the way in the grooves.
By the way... what size belt is it? (I have an LT12 and it didn't have a belt on it... took my best guess but not positive its the right size.)

As long as the battery in the lawnmower is a 12 Volt battery you will be fine.
The ideal voltage requirement for a lawnmower battery is typically 12 volts.
Most LT12H mowers take a #213676 OEM belt or #6885 Gates belt for the blade application
12 Volt
yes have had 4 in 12 years will go 200.000 miles with care , do rust in salt belt
USUALLY UNDER THE HOOD THERE ARE SEVERAL DIAGRAMS ONE BEING THE SERPENTINE BELT IF NOT USE A MANUAL FOR ABOUT 12 BUCKS AT YOUR LOCAL PARTS DEALER
Every 12 months.
Loosen the bolts holding the alternator in place and then loosen the bolt on the bracket with the slot. Slide the alternator down the slot until the belt is loose enough to remove. Install the new belt and the slide the alternator back until the belt is tight. Now you need to set the belt deflections. When free span is less than 12 inches between pulleys, belt deflection should be 1/8 to 1/4 inch. When free span is longer than 12 inches, belt deflection should be 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Check the deflection by pressing the belt halfway between pulleys. Tighten down all bolts to 30 lb/ft of torque.
42" Cut Riding Mowers call for around 12 to 14 psi.
I assume you mean serpentine belt. It should have a diagram on the top of your passengers side front strut if not buy a haynes for 12 bucks or better yet google it.
