To replace the head gasket on a 2005 Ford Ranger, first, disconnect the battery and drain the cooling system. Remove the intake and exhaust manifolds, then take off the cylinder head by loosening the head bolts in the correct sequence. Clean the mating surfaces thoroughly before placing the new gasket and reassembling everything in reverse order, ensuring to torque the head bolts to the manufacturer's specifications. Finally, refill the cooling system and reconnect the battery.
The only permanent repair is to replace the gasket with a new one.
