I had the problem. The fuel gauge was stuck at full, but from the other side, as if it rotated the wrong direction. The only way I found to fix it, and disconnecting the battery doesn't do it...is this way, it worked for me and has been working fine ever since.
Remove the instrument cluster from the dash. Two screws, one above the tach, one above the speedometer. Remove the snap on cover (black). It pulls straight out and up. Their are snaps at the bottom so make sure you pull upward while you pull out. It WILL fight you, but don't worry.
Next, their are four screws holding the gauges in, unscrew them, two at the top, two at the bottom. When you do that, the gauges come out easily, when you get them out far enough, disconnect the plug in the back of the gauges.
Remove* the gauges and orient them on their side and begin tapping the side of the gauges until the fuel gauge comes down to about the halfway mark.
Plug the gauges back in and turn the ignition on to see if it works. If not, unplug and tap it down more and try again.
Once it's fixed, re-install in the opposite order. The odometer/trip reset buttons on the left side need to be plugged back in, but you'll see that while you do this.
Good luck....it worked for me.
Reset a fuel gauge? There is not reset for a fuel gauge.
There is no reset button for the fuel gauge. Something is either wrong with the gauge or the sending unit in the tank.
Did you disconnect the battery for a while?
There is no reset for the fuel gauge. The sending unit in the fuel tank has probably failed.
You do not have to reset the fuel pump just because the battery went dead.
Yes, you can reset the gas gauge on a 2002 Pontiac Aztec by disconnecting the vehicle's battery. Simply remove the negative terminal for about 10-15 minutes to reset the electrical system, which may help recalibrate the gauge. After reconnecting the battery, start the vehicle and check if the gas gauge is functioning properly. If problems persist, it may indicate a faulty fuel level sender or gauge that needs further inspection.
Low battery and when attempting to start car ran battery further down. Date and time went to default settings and fuel gauge registered empty. Charged battery. Fuel gauge still showing nothing. Picked up answer from Audiworld post. Removed fuse 15 (instrument cluster) & 28 (fuel pump), turned on ignition or to start the car - might not start, but mine did), put fuses back in. Fuel gauge now correct.
if its computer orientated i would disconect the battery for 20 minutes
To reset the fuel gauge on a 2004 GM Sierra, start by turning the ignition key to the "ON" position without starting the engine. Press the gas pedal three times within five seconds. This action should reset the fuel gauge. If the issue persists, it may indicate a problem with the fuel sending unit or the gauge itself.
There is no resetting a fuel guage. It either works or it doesn't.
Fuel gauge problems are usually the fault of the fuel gauge sending unit in the fuel tank, just saying.
The fuel cap has no effect on the fuel gauge and there is no "reset" for this. More than likely the problem is with fuel sending unit in the tank. A less likely cause is incorrect levels of additives in fuel, this can cause the gauge to flucuate erratically.
