Now, disclaimer, this answers is based on getting to the heart of Chicago not the suburb.

Mapquest says it takes 2 hours 54 minutes to go 160.33 miles from Chicago to Galena.

My family and I, however, usually can make it to O'Hare from Galena in a little more than 2 hours.

The route:

1. Roughly take I-90 WEST (Jane Addams Mem.) TOLLWAY to U.S. 20 WEST via I-39 SOUTH.
2. Take U.S. 20 WEST to Galena.
