you need to find out if its the fans are bad or is the coolant temp censor bad or thermostat or if there is air in system

I had the same problem with my 1997 Mitsubishi ecplise. The shop tried to tell me that it is going to be alot of money to replace the temp sensor that is inside the head. We fixed it another way by wireing a switch to the sensor and we can turn the fans on when we need to, but it is just best to just keep them on when ever you turn your car on.
