it is possible. The 368 code is related to fuel. Your transfer pump should be pushing 10-15 psi. if it goes less then 10 psi it starves and will ruin the VP44 injection pump. This a very common problem. it is best to run a fuel pressure gauge. CHANGE OUT THE TRANSFER PUMP, and hope you haven't toasted your injection pump.

I'm not real sure about the smaller diesels, But you have to fill that filter with diesel before installing it! You may have done this already. Hope this helped! actually on the isb engines with a good working transfer pump. you turn the ignition key try to startthen release the key and wait for a minute or two while the pump fills the housing. if it doesnt do it the first time then just try starting again. repeat upto 3 times before checking to see if the housing has fueal in it. but ISb engine are noted for the transfer pump to die on you. if that is the case you can buy a oem from the dealer, or a after market from fass or I know there is another company. also if you have a transfer pump and a vp44 injection pump... might want to get a fuel pressure light or guage... I replaced to on my isb and finally bought a fass and the problem was solved...

you have lots of options, first i would go with just and intake and performance exhaust to help it breath. if that's not enough look into after market programmers or chip. you can even stack chips with a programmer. if you still need more go with a larger better turbo and injectors. then finally modify or get a new vp44 injection pump. if you really want to learn find a online diesel forum to help you out and give you direction.

It depends on the year. If it is the older 12 valve usually the pump timing is adavanced way too far or the fuel plate in the govenor housing has been modified. Too much fuel not enough air. If it is the common rail i have had several trucks that have just had faulty injectors that will dribble fuel creating extremely high egts. The vp44 pump equipped cummins i have not seen a lot of problems out of because the injectors were full mechanical and the pump was marginal at best. They were not capable in stick trim of overfueling. Cummins did change the piston design in the last few years and started beveling the edge of the combustion bowl because the lip that used to protrude could crack over time. This is also true of the 7.3 powerstroke and Isuzu 4he1 engines. Remember if you are adding extra fuel keep an eye on your exhaust gas temps and back sure your fuel system and turbo are up to the task.

Dodge uses the Cummins 6bt turbo diesel, which is a medium duty engine and built to last. Up until 2008, Dodge used the 5.9L version of this engine, which has been in use since the introduction of the cummins to the Dodge line of pickups. There were 4 different generations of this engine used all with there own differences, mainly being the type of fuel injection used. Until 1998, they used all mechanical injection with two different pumps. The first pump was the Bosch VE fuel pump which was used until 1994 when they changed to the Bosch P7100 which is a very desirable pump for the aftermarket/performance enthusiast. They also used a 12 valve head design during these years. In 1998 they switched to an electric fuel injection pump and a 24 valve head design. These engines used a Bosch VP44 fuel injection pump that, if not properly supported, would get burnt up very easily if it was starved of fuel. In 2003, they kept the 24 valve head design and went to common rail injection and used the Bosch CP3 fuel pump to achieve the fuel pressured needed for the common rail system. In 2008, the bumped up the displacement to 6.7L in order to comply with new federal emissions. Ford uses the Powerstroke, which is made by Navistar. The 7.3L Powerstroke is arguably the best engine of the Powerstroke family which includes the 6.0L and the 6.4L. The 7.3L and the 6.0L used a HEUI (Hydroelectronic Unit Injection) system. In 2008, they made the switch to common rail with the 6.4L and also made use of a twin turbo system. The 6.4L is also the new emissions friendly Powerstroke. General Motors (Chevy and GMC) use the Duramax 6.6L engine. It is designed by Isuzu which is a branch of GM and has had the same displacement since its introduction in 2001 or 2002 (unsure of what year). It is an engine that is very capable of making quite a bit of power with few modifications and is taking over some classes of the diesel motorsports world, which until recently has been ruled by the Cummins powered Dodges. Now Duramax and Cummins powered trucks a very evenly matched while the Powerstroke still has some work to do to become reliable at the power levels the other two can achieve with relatively little work/money.
