If you can get it to load, the above site only gives data about new cars. It is poorly served. And, finding useful internet content on the subject is impossible. It seems that no one wants questions or answers on this topic.
Fuel economy discussions are dominated with content about big hybrid vehicles made even heavier by carrying expensive batteries which are scheduled for replacement at regular intervals. It is an obvious effort to make vehicles more expensive and more disposable. Auto makers convinced themselves (and the buying public, they hope) that we want a full-sized luxury mega-car with a mid-sized thirst.
Some recent diesel powered vehicles get decent fuel economy. However, diesel contains more energy than petroleum and costs more. Meaningful answers for the question are probably limited to "the most fuel efficient gasoline powered mass production automobiles that carry more than two passengers."
Nearly twenty years ago, the Geo Metro xFI gave 50+ mpg for a retail price of about $9,000. It had a 3 cylinder, 1 liter engine with special components (pistons, camshaft, manual transmission, final gearing and ignition timing) tuned for fuel economy. They even omitted the passenger side mirror to reduce air resistance.
Designed by Suzuki, it was inexpensive, fall-off-a-rock simple, bet-your-life reliable and (in some ways) over-engineered. The standard model Metro was the first car I ever saw with an automatic transmission pan drain plug.
It speaks volumes that none of today's petroleum powered vehicle models and less than 1 percent of today's hybrid vehicle models can compare to the lowly '90 - '94 Geo Metro xFI's fuel economy after twenty years of technical evolution. With the technical evolution of lightweight materials like carbon fiber, automobile systems control computers and developments in every aspect of automobile design, it is a global embarrassment that the Geo Metro xFI stands as the pinnacle of the history of automobile design.

nd Mercedes c- class Amgare made by people and lots of other exotic cars. so mainly it depends on what kind of car. ^^the question was asking how many cars (in general) and there are aprox. 70million new cars built a year and about a total of 800million cars in the world.
The highest dB record on a car was measured at around 181 dB. This level of noise can be damaging to human hearing and is often produced by extremely loud car audio systems in competitions or custom-built cars designed for sound demonstrations.
