Code P1694 for a 1998 Jeep Cherokee typically indicates a communication issue between the engine control module (ECM) and the transmission control module (TCM). This can result from a faulty wiring connection, a bad sensor, or issues with the modules themselves. It's important to inspect the wiring harness and connectors for damage and to check the modules for proper functionality.
