The type of Transmission Fluid used in a Subaru Outback typically depends on the model year and the specific transmission type. Most modern Subaru Outbacks use Subaru's own branded CVT fluid, known as Subaru CVTF (Continuously Variable Transmission Fluid). For older models with automatic transmissions, Dexron III or a similar fluid may be required. Always consult the owner's manual or a dealership for the exact specifications for your particular vehicle.
The dipstick tube is where you add the transmission fluid. If you are putting it in the same tube, it has to be going into the pan. If you are adding it somewhere else well, there is your answer.
owners manual will tell you
The standard Dexron III most vehicles use.
That depends on why you are asking. You did not specify model year or type of transmission so I will assume that we are talking about a four speed automatic transmission. If you are draining the fluid by way of the drain plug on the left side of the transmission the amount is 4 quarts, give or take. Make sure that you are using the correct transmission fluid for your car by checking your owner's manual. Since about 2005 they use a type HP fluid. This stuff is not cheap, but I have heard horror stories from people who have tried using Dexron.

To replace the auto transmission sensor in a 2000 Subaru Outback, first, disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety. Locate the transmission range sensor, which is typically found on the side of the transmission. Remove the electrical connector and the mounting bolts securing the sensor, then carefully take out the old sensor and install the new one in reverse order. Finally, reconnect the battery terminal and test the vehicle to ensure proper functionality.
Take them out then put the new ones in
Owner's manual for my '96 says 3.7 US quarts. I would expect it to be the same. If you don't have an owner's manual and take care of your own car, you really need to get one. They are available on eBay for less than $10. Newer ones are available for download in .pdf format on Subaru's web site free.
This question has been asked before. The answer depends on why you are asking. Draining fluid with the drain plug, refilling will take about 4 quarts. You should do this at least yearly to get long life from your transmission. Good luck! --Ken
