Mazda 5 speed transmission M5OD-R1 is the one you have in your ranger...and f150 would have the same code on the door sticker but the tranny is a M5OD-R2
I would guess not, an M5OD* is a Mazda replacement. To anybody who doesn't know an M5OD means Manual 5-Speed with Over Drive
Look at the bottom of the tranny. If it has a ribbed bottom and 14 bolts it is a Mazda(Toyo Kogyo) 4 or 5 speed. If it has a stamped metal bottom and 12 bolts it is either a Mitsubishi FM-145 or FM-146. If there are no bolts it is Mazda M5od. if it is an automatic it is a A4ld.
Updated --- No, because starting in 1994 ford started using Mazda engines. So the 1999 ranger will have a whole different transmission than the 1993. Incorrect.-------- Mazda has manufactured transmissions for the Ranger since 1988. The model numbers are the same from 1988 to present, M5OD-R1, with the exception of the 1997 to present 4.0 SOHC, which uses the M5OD-R1HD transmission.
yes they do
According to this website;http://market.autopartsfair.com/ford-transmissions/find_product.HTML?model=ranger_2wd&year=1989You have an A4LD transmission whether it is a 2wd or a 4wd.Answerand what is funny is that tranny is so bad ford says it isn't a ford tranny..mercury designed it and ford made the "mistake" of using it for their trucks AnswerThere were three transmissions available in 1989. There was the Mitsubishi unit that was often coupled with the 2.9 liter engine and the Mazda M5OD (which is in my 1992 Ranger) for the manual transmissions. Then, there was the A4LD automatic.
The 1994 Ford Ranger typically uses the Mazda M5OD-R1 manual transmission or the Ford 4R44E automatic transmission, depending on the engine and configuration. The M5OD-R1 is also found in models like the Mazda B-Series trucks from the same era. For automatics, the 4R44E is common in various Ford vehicles, including some models of the Explorer and Aerostar. Always verify compatibility with your specific engine and drivetrain setup before making a swap.
M5OD
therangerstation.com as well as autozone.com both have decent write ups for this problem.
That's a loaded question. Almost any engine can be put in if you have the time and money. The 2.8L, 2.9L and the 4.0L are bolt in with no modifications. These 3 engines have the same tranny mounting bolt pattern. The 4.0L with the M5od tranny is a pretty popular swap. The 302 will fit with minor mods. The different trannys are different lenghts so the driveshafts will ned to be shortened/ lenghtened as nessecary. The tanny crossmember may need to be moved also.
M5od-r1
FORD recommended Mercon-ATF for the Mazda 5-speed manual OD transmission in the 1992 Ranger XLT. 90 weight gear lube is probably way too heavy for this type of smaller transmission.
