In a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier, the lock button on the key lock cylinder is typically located at the top of the cylinder itself. It's a small, usually round or flat button that you can press to lock or unlock the door manually using the key. To use it, insert the key into the lock cylinder and turn it to either lock or unlock the door. If you're having trouble locating it, check for any obstructions around the door handle area.
You must be able to turn the lock cylinder to replace it. First take off the battery cable so the air bags dont go off. Then unscrew and remove the tilt lever. Then remove the upper & lower steering column covers.(3 screws on the bottom) Then turn the key to the RUN position. Then press the lock button with a screw driver and remove the lock cylinder. The lock button is silver color compaired to the gray lock cylinder. To put it back in...Turn the key to the run position, press the lock button, rotating the key counterclockwise about 5 degrees,gently push the lock into place. The ignition switch is strait across from the lock on the column.(black color)

You must be able to turn the lock to remove it. First,unscrew the tilt lever,then remove the 3 screws underneeth the colum trim cover and remove them. Then turn the key to the "RUN" position. On the back of the lock is a release button press it in with a small screw driver and remove the lock cylinder.
