There are several reasons why this might occur. If your fluid level is low, your engine will not circulate enough antifreeze to fill your heater core ( which usually leads to your engine overheating, but not always if you are just borderline low), if your heater core is plugged (most common) or if you have a sealed system and there is air in the system which prevents your liquidfrom running through the heater core. The most likely cause is a bad heater core which is bad news because it is hard to access, therefor hard to replace.
why does my 2002 chevy cavalier over heat after i change the thermostat and the water pump
thermostat
Check your coolant level.
The fan should turn on whenever the engine temperature reaches a certain point. If the fan does NOT come on, the cooling system is not able to dissipate the excess heat. Yes, it can cause the engine to overheat.
To remove the heat shield on a Chevy Cavalier, first ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the engine is cool. Use a socket wrench to remove any bolts or nuts securing the heat shield to the exhaust system or the vehicle chassis. If the shield is held in place by clips, gently pry them off with a flathead screwdriver. Once all fasteners are removed, carefully lift the heat shield away from the vehicle.
Muffler Heat Sheild
Use a propne torch to heat the edges of thermostat while prying up with screw driver or like tool.
Exhaust components rust out over time due to weather and the heat from the vehicle. On a 2001 Chevy Cavalier, when the muffler strap rusts, welding a new strap in its place will offer a complete and reliable repair.
try looking at your resistor pack on the passsenger side lower the blower motor down and there is a heat coil and resistor in there
I'd check the coolant level first, then the thermostat.
Low coolant? Bad thermostat? Heater core airbound, plugged or restricted? Water pump not circulating coolant?
$52- $208 roughly. depends on if the heater core is bad.
