The problem can be many things depending on your car. My Ford f150 did the same thing. These are things to check assuming your starter, battery and solnoid are good....
You should first check your engine to body ground. One end of the wire on the engine, the other on the body. If it is not there, then this can cause problems.
Did you replace the cable from the solnoid to the starter recently? It should be a heavy duty cable (hard to bend).
Lastly and likely, your gas line is getting hot, causing your gas in the tube to vaporize when you shut off the engine, Or it cools to rapidly... This is also known as vapor lock. You should shield the gas line from your exhaust manifold (assuming you have fuel injection) which is causing the heat. Ideally you could replace the heat shield that is on it, but heavy duty Reynolds wrap layered about 4 times will do the trick as well. Basically force the radiant heat down and away from the fuel line (where the injectors are. You can also purchase manifold wrap very inexpensive and does the same thing. Don't do it when the engine is hot!!!
Good luck and have fun!

The oil thins when hot and the oil pump is driven off the engine so, the lower the engine rpm's, the slower the pump turns.
check the antifreeze
The engine will cause the hood to get hot. That is fairly normal.
hi i have a cuz that is working on a 87 ford turk and he says his manifold gets hot and turns red and i was woundering why that is
.014/.016 hot
Temperature coolant sensor...
The reservoir has two level lines - one for "cold engine" and the other for "hot engine". If the engine is hot, and the coolant level is low, fill the reservoir to the "hot engine" level. When the engine is cold and the level is low, I usually" top off" the radiator and fill the reservoir to the "cold engine" level.
Actually, the heat regulator for the engine is the thermostat. It closes off the coolant when the engine is cold and circulates more coolant when the engine is hot.
The engine should be hot and idling in park.
It's on the coolant reservoir. Do not open when engine is hot.
If the cap on the Resoivoir twist or turns on says DO NOT OPEN HOT and there is no cap on rad then this is where you fill it at.
Are you running the A/C at the same time? Is the engine cold or hot ?tell me first, there may be a couple of things wrong.
