The oil thins when hot and the oil pump is driven off the engine so, the lower the engine rpm's, the slower the pump turns.
The oil gets thinner. It is normal for the oil pressure to drop after the engine has reached full operating temperature. If you have from 30-40 psi pressure when the engine is hot then that is normal.
The fan clutch is not functioning properly. Replace.
DOES IT HOLD GOOD OIL PRESSURE WHILE HOT AND IDLING? SOUNDS LIKE MAIN BEARINGS.
The oil is hot and the rpm's are low. When you first start up the internal rotating parts are colder and tighter then at operating temp which will drive the oil pressure up, as the engine gets to operating temp the gaps around the internal rotating parts change due to temperature, causing oil pressure to drop at an idle. Most people never notice this due to having warning lights instead of gauges.
There is no ideal pressure. Of course the oil pressure will be higher when the engine is cold. After it is running and at full operating temp, the pressure should read at least 10 lbs while idling. The pressure will be directly related to how many miles are on the engine and the amount of wear. A new engine will have around 40 lbs when hot and running at 2,000 rpms, and around 30 lbs at idle.
The engine should be hot and idling in park.
What makes you think it's valve noise? How's your oil pressure? If you only have a light, does it flicker or just plain turn on when the engine is hot and idling? If it's an oil pressure gauge, is the oil pressure down near the bottom during idle? If you have poor oil pressure and the engine is making a tapping noise when you accelerate hard, it
Hot, idling in drive, 20 lbs.
check the antifreeze
It is normal for the oil pressure to drop some when warmed up.
Key on, engine not running...41-47psi Engine idling...W/vac. hose attached 31-44psi. Enging idling..W/O vac. hose attached 42-50psi. These fuel pumps will stop working when they get hot and start working when they cool off. Just let it idle a little while while watching the pressure guage to see if pressure drops out when the stalling problem occures. Crankshaft position sensors CAN act the same way when they go out.
