Yes, an ignition can make a grinding sound, especially if there is an issue with the starter motor, flywheel, or other components involved in the starting process. This noise may indicate that the starter gear is not properly engaging with the flywheel, or that there is a mechanical problem within the starter system. If you hear a grinding sound when attempting to start your vehicle, it's advisable to have it checked by a mechanic.

roller coasters waste energy through sound and heat. The wheels on the cart and the metal tracks grind together to make a fricional pull. this causes the screeching sound when the cart stops, and the heat of the track.
A worn ignition switch causes this. You did not turn the ignition off to the locked position. So you would not need the key to turn the car back on. Make sure when you take your key out you can't turn your car back on and then when you open a door it will not make a noise. Just a security feature.......?
