Well, sometimes it's recommended to replace it when you replace the belt. If it's not pricey and you can easily get at it, it's suggested that you replace it. Improperly tensioned belts will fail quickly, and possibly put strain on what it drives. (ie alternator) Loose with no more room to tighten, frayed, cracked, or glazed over. Replace it is you even think it is bad.
Assuming you're asking about the serpentine belt, you cannot adjust the tension. If the belt is too loose it's either because it needs to be replaced or the belt tensioner needs to be replaced.
Belt tensioner is weak. Needs to be replaced.
You don't, it has a spring loaded tensioner, If the serpentine belt is loose the tensioner has failed and needs to be replaced
Sounds like a belt or belt tensioner needs to be replaced
if there is any play at all in the bearing on the tensioner,it needs replacing. also if you hae the correct new serpentine belt and the tensioner does not keep the belt tight when installed properly, you need new tensioner
Either the belt needs replaced or the tensioner is bad.
Not unless the bearing in that pulley is noisy or rough when you spin it.
Tension is accomplished with a belt tensioner, it is probably defective and needs replaced.
You can't, the serpentine belt (or fan belt) on a grand marquis is equiped with a self tensioner, if your belt is making noise it either needs to be replaced or one of the pulleys on the cars may be loose and would need to be replaced.
There is a spring loaded tensioner that is supposed to keep the serpentine tight. If it is loose, it needs to be replaced.
A "knocking" noise sounds like a bad connecting rod bearing. You may be ready to "sling a rod". These engines are famous for it.
if your belt is loose, the tensioner probably needs replacing. the tensioner is the mechanism that keeps the belt tight.
