Disconnect the Battery: Always begin by disconnecting the negative battery cable to ensure safety.
Remove the Serpentine Belt: Use a serpentine belt tool or wrench to relieve tension and slide the belt off the pulleys.
Unbolt the Tensioner: Locate the tensioner assembly, usually mounted to the engine block, and remove the bolts holding it in place.
Install the New Tensioner: Position the new tensioner, tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's torque specs, and ensure it aligns with the belt path.
Reinstall the Belt: Route the serpentine belt correctly over all pulleys and apply tension using the new tensioner.
Reconnect the Battery: Once everything is secured, reconnect the battery and start the engine to verify proper operation.
If you're replacing a worn or damaged tensioner, always consider checking the serpentine belt as well.

Remove the serpentine belt. Tensioner is below Alternator. Remove the three mounting bolts on the tensioner baracket assembly. Replace entire unit.
Note:The drivebelt routing decal on the radiator shroud to help during drivebelt install * To replace the belt rotate the tensioner pulley clockwise to release belt tension * Remove the belt from the auxiliary components and slowly release the tensioner * Route the new belt over the various pulleys again rotating the tensioner to allow the belt to be installed then release the belt tensioner

I'm guess you're asking about relieving the tension on the belt? The tensioner swivels away from the belt, thus loosening the belt. This is done by putting a wrench or socket or whatever you can fit, onto the front of the tensioner and rotating it.
Remove serpentine belt, by loosening tensioner(15mm box end should do it). Tensioner is located above the water pump and below alternator. Remove the three bolts from alternator mounting bracket, install new alternator, then replace the belt. I've found it easier to use a large flat screw driver as a prybar, while turning the tensioner with a wrench, to place the belt over the alternator pulley.
The tensioner rotates or swivels on it's mount to put some slack in the belt. You can usually get a wrench or a shallow socket on the nut that holds the pulley and rotate it whichever direction it needs. FriPilot
it's in the belt path and has sort of a snout behind the pulley. It's back near the tensioner.
Automatic belt tensioner - if not enough pressure replace tensioner Belt has streched too big, and the Automatic belt tensioner is at its limit. The tentioner is how yo remove the belt, so you should feel its tention with your wrench.
How do you change the supercharger belt tensioner in 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP?
I can think of two ways. First, the belt tensioner spring may be worn. If this is the case, you'll have to replace the tensioner. Second, the alternator has some adjustment fore and aft. That might be what you need to look at.
To fix the Pontiac Sunfire if it jumped time, the timing belt has to be replaced. Then the car has to have the timing set again after the belt is replaced.
