To test the alternator on a 2000 Dodge Caravan, first, start the engine and use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the battery terminals. A healthy alternator should produce between 13.8 to 14.5 volts while the engine is running. If the voltage is significantly lower, the alternator may be faulty. Additionally, you can check for unusual noises or a warning light on the dashboard, which may indicate an issue with the alternator.
Charge it, replace it,test the alternator,Charge it, replace it,test the alternator,
Check spark plugs, plug wires, do a compression test
Trouble code P0401 means: EGR System Malfunction Replace the EGR Valve
P1294, target idle speed not reached.
Self test has completed.
If the vehicle can be made to run, it would indicate an alternator rather than starter problem (obviously), but connecting a voltmeter to the battery terminals while the engine is running about 2000 RPM and getting a voltage reading of less than 12 Volts or much more than 14 or 15 Volts would indicate a faulty alternator. If the engine cannot be made to run, either or both the starter and alternator must be removed for testing. Most auto part stores can test these for you, usually for free (especially if they think you'll be buying replacements from them). For information on how to test the starter yourself, see the related question/s.
940 is mis communication from PCM and 999 means that's the end of test
To test the alternator on a 1985 Dodge truck, first ensure the battery is fully charged. Start the engine and use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the battery terminals; it should read between 13.5 to 14.5 volts if the alternator is functioning properly. Additionally, you can check the alternator's output by disconnecting the positive battery cable while the engine is running; if the engine stalls, the alternator is likely faulty. Lastly, inspect the alternator belt for any signs of wear or looseness, as this can affect performance.
We just had the same problem on a 2005 caravan. Auto parts store tested it and siad the alternator was bad. Took it to main dealer and they said the battery was bad. They changed the battery and all is well. (Main dealer battery $160 so beware!!!!!) Try a new battery from somewhere cheaper. You can also remove the alternator and take it to an auto parts store where they can bench test it and tell you if it is bad. They can do the same with the battery.
Only if the battery fails the load test.
bad alternator or battery most local parts stores will test both of them for free
To install a window lift motor in a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan SE on the passenger side, first, remove the door panel by unscrewing the fasteners and gently prying it off. Disconnect the electrical connector from the old motor and remove it by unscrewing the bolts holding it in place. Install the new motor by securing it with the bolts, reconnect the electrical harness, and then reattach the door panel. Finally, test the window operation before fully securing everything.
