The distributor cap wiring order for a Dodge 383 V8 engine typically follows the firing order of 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. When looking at the distributor cap with the terminals facing you, the first cylinder (1) is usually located at the front of the engine on the driver's side. Following the firing order, the wires should be routed counterclockwise around the cap. Always verify with specific service manuals or resources for your vehicle to ensure accuracy.
On the 383 Dodge , # 1 on the distributor cap faces to the front and slightly towards the passenger side
the 440 has much more power but the 383 is louder the 440 is harder to find
I believe that faces towards the front and towards the passenger side ( same as the 383 , 400 , 426 Hemi , and 440 )

If you have a 361 the 383 heads will work, but they won't work on a 318.
Since a 1998 truck was not available with a 383 you would have modify a trans that bolts up to a 383 to fit the truck.
1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2 note, on the 383 (and all big block mopars) the distributor turns counter clockwise.
