To check the transmission oil on a 1981 Datsun 280ZX, first ensure the vehicle is on a level surface. With the engine running and the transmission in park or neutral, remove the dipstick located on the transmission. Wipe it clean, reinsert it fully, and then remove it again to check the oil level. The oil should be within the marked range on the dipstick; add fluid if necessary.
Nope, im looking for it also but for a Datsun 280ZX Nissan and Datsun are the same thing, however if you have the Chilton's Repair Manual for the NISSAN Z&ZX 1970-1988(which you should) I believe it's number 52800, you can find the vacuum diagram in section 4 page 26 That diagram is for a N/A 280ZX and only for the emmissions. I need a complete diagram for a 280ZX Turbo, 1981. I have the Automatic Climate Control and it is a California model. Can anyone help?
The distributor cap and rotor for the 1979 Datsun 280ZX and 1980 280ZX should be the same as they both use the L28 inline-six engine. However, it's always best to verify part compatibility by comparing part numbers or consulting with a parts specialist.

Yes, the 1979 Datsun 280ZX was equipped with a points-style distributor in its earlier models. However, starting from the 1981 model year, it transitioned to an electronic ignition system, eliminating the need for points. This change improved reliability and maintenance for the vehicle.
To remove the gas tank from a 1981 Datsun 280ZX, first, ensure the vehicle is safely elevated and supported. Disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connections, then remove the bolts securing the tank straps. Finally, carefully lower the tank from the vehicle, taking care to avoid damaging any surrounding components. Always remember to work in a well-ventilated area and follow safety precautions, as fuel vapors can be hazardous.
For a 1981 Datsun 280ZX with an automatic transmission, the ignition timing is typically set to 10 degrees BTDC (before top dead center) at idle speed. It's important to ensure the engine is at operating temperature and that all accessories are turned off during the adjustment. Additionally, you may refer to the vehicle’s service manual for any specific adjustments or specifications related to your engine’s condition or modifications. Always use a timing light for accurate measurements.
