Warming the engine before changing the oil helps ensure that the oil is more fluid, allowing it to drain more easily and completely from the engine. Warm oil carries contaminants more effectively, leading to a cleaner oil change. Additionally, it reduces the viscosity of the oil, making it easier to remove from tight spaces and ensuring that the new oil can circulate properly once the change is complete.
Never!!!
Start the bike up and let the oil warm up (side of the cylinder should be pretty warm to touch) before killing engine. Remove drain plug (on bottom of engine) and let all oil run out. Replace drain plug and remove filler plug on side of cases and add oil.
Always start and warm up any engine before changing oil. You will have a better chance at removing sludge in the oil.
It is typically recommended to add oil to a warm engine, as this allows the oil to flow more easily and drain any impurities. However, it is important to ensure the engine is not too hot to avoid burns.
You should since it increases longevity just like changing engine oil does for the engine.
Minimum of 10 psi at idle when the engine is warm.Minimum of 10 psi at idle when the engine is warm.
In a cold engine, 10w30 is heavier; however, in a warm engine, both should be the same weight - 30.
Makes no difference if the engine is warm or cold. Just make sure the engine has not been run for at least 30 minutes before checking the oil level. This way you will get a very accurate reading. I normally check my oil level after the car has sat overnight.
If its anything like my 1996 1200 it should take three qts for the engine and one qt for the primary.
At every 5000miles or 8000km engine oil & filter, primary fluid and transmission fluid should all be changed on Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
it should be 7.9 qts i just finished changing mine tonight
