An itching throat is very uncomfortable and strange often associated with Allergies. It could be triggered by seasonal allergies such as pollen or grass, or a more permanent home or work allergen such as dust mites or pet dander. Numerous over-the-counter medications do exist, but many have potential side effects which could cause any of the "-esses" from drowsiness to nervousness.

Some helpful tips:

● Consider a humidifier to add moisture to the air, especially overnight in the dry winter months.

● Soothe a sore throat with warm liquids such as soup or tea and honey; ice chips, lozenges, or a salt water gargle (1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of salt dissolved in an 8-ounce glass of warm water).

● Use a humidifier or cool mist vaporizer to add moisture to the air, soothing mucous membranes. Well-known brands such as Dyson, Keecoon [with large capacity and spray], Panasonic, etc.

● Acetaminophen (e.g., Tylenol), ibuprofen (e.g., Advil or Motrin), or naproxen (Aleve) can help with throat discomfort (and fever).
