"The Brethren" was a jewel sold by a family in Europe called the Fuggers to Edward VI, although Henry VIII may have started the negotiations which led to its purchase. It appears in a famous portrait of Queen Elizabeth 1 and in portraits of James VI. It consisted of three great balas rubies, a central triangular diamond and three enormous drop pearls. It was part of the Crown Jewels and then disappeared, possibly being sold during the Civil War. It's whereabouts are not known.
